KCAC Instagram Takeover
July, 2017
lorrie boydston
The heat is on in KC and in an effort to help keep your minds off the hot hot heat of July, KCAC Artist Lifestyle Project is back with local painter Lorrie Boydston(@lorrieboydstonfineart).
Lorrie is a longtime friend, artist and member of KCAC, so we are delighted to be able to share her artwork with all of you for the next six days! As an artist in self described suburban civilization, Lorrie’s artwork often explores the dichotomy of suburban life and how it relates to our personal ideas of what is private and public. Lorrie received her MA in painting from the University of Missouri, Kansas City and BSED in art education from Missouri State University. She currently teaches art and continues her professional painting career in Kansas City.
Her are a few words about her artwork and inspiration in her own words:
“My work explores conceptual ideas of suburban life, architecture, time, environment and spirituality through the use of paintings and mixed media works. Representational works include scenes from everyday suburban life that we would normally take for granted painted with a bold, charming style with emphasis on light and color. Recent abstract works incorporate a grid pattern that speaks to the redundancies in suburban architecture and the underlying, imposed structures of subdivision rules. Loosely painted grid patterns are a reassuring ritual that provides me a sense of peace and belonging where we might otherwise feel isolated or lost among the stress and turmoil of daily life.”
We are very excited to see what Lorrie has in store for us, so here are a few images of her artwork and past Instagram photos to get things kicked off…
Be sure to follow Lorrie on her KCAC Instagram journey starting tomorrow Thursday, July 20th – Tuesday, July 25th!
